West Chester Project: Dining Room Before & After

Last week we shared the Before & After of the kitchen from our West Chester project. Happily our client wanted to maximize the kitchen’s renovation by decorating the adjoining dining room as well. We helped finish the space with a few key changes, and I love that this room is now inviting and full of personality.

Prior to renovation, the dining room was underutilized and closed off from the kitchen and main living space. One of our larger project goals was to open up and improve the flow between the kitchen and the dining room. The layout reconfiguration in the kitchen called for a relocation and expansion of the doorway between the two rooms.

What had been a small, asymmetrically located doorway became a bright, balanced opening between the two rooms – and oh what a difference it made!

We played on the new light and flow by selecting materials that felt airy and bright. I was deeply and madly in love with this Pleasure Gardens wallcovering in Bloom by Jessica Zoob collection for Romo Black. Thankfully the feeling was mutual for our client, and we hung it on the main wall in the dining room. It really was a dreamy addition to the space, and dictated subsequent choices in lighting and furnishings.

The Blossom G pendants from Worlds Away were a natural choice against the lotus-inspired wallcovering, and in the spirit of beauty and abundance we chose to hang three over the dining table. At the client’s request, we kept their existing dining table and sideboard, and freshened the dark wood by pairing it with new Dayna Side Chairs in white from Ballard Designs.

In all, once the heavy work of the kitchen renovation was complete, the finishing work for this dining room only amounted to selecting new wallcovering, lighting, chairs, and a few accessories. Not a huge lift in comparison to the kitchen, but it made all the difference in resuscitating what had been a dead space, and expanding the impact of the new kitchen to create a cohesive, vibrant and welcoming space for our client.
