One Room Challenge, Week 6

Guys I’m HUR-TIN.  As I mentioned, I pulled my back out this weekend and now a heating pad is my best friend.  I’m so frustrated!  There is so much I want to do- both with the bedroom and with the rest of the house.  But instead I’m stuck on the sofa.

I refuse to miss my deadline, so I did work on a little somthin somthin.  I was originally going to buy these structural modern lamps for my nightstands.  But then I got cheap and didn’t want to spend any more money.  I just poured a ton into my home renovation and I have a lot of rooms to go.  I already had these foo dog lamps but they were so off-white they were basically beige.  That wouldn’t have worked with my bedding or curtains, so I sprayed them crisp white.  (A good primer was key for this project!)

I dig what the foo dog lamps add to the room.  Just a little more boho to my preppy bohemian equation.  They are so funky and fun.  I love Chinoserie elements!

Oh hey did you notice my headboard?  You didn’t think I was leaving my bed that simple white rectangle did you?  PSSSSHAAWWWW.

Yup, with huge help from my father, sister  and mother, I tackled a monster DIY headboard project.

Mid-Makeover: 3″ foam attached to curved plywood attached to my Ikea bed.

(Full breakdown is forthcoming)

What fabric will I use?  What will the finished room look like?  Can I actually pull this all off without falling apart in more ways then one?  You’ll have to tune in next week to the dramatic conclusion of this One Room Challenge.

How are my challenge-mates fairing in their decorating sagas?  Check their links to find out.

  1. Ashley

You can’t just drop a bombshell in the form of that headboard and leave it like that…seriously. And damn, Land of Nod has some pretty awesome lamps, huh?

  2. I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything you can’t make, but I hope for your sake you take it easy on the crazy diy projects for at least a little while! Back pain ain’t no joke.

    Feel better!

  3. Sarah

Love the lamps and headboard!! So sorry about your back. There is nothing worse.

  4. Its been awhile Naomi but I still check in every so often! I am loving everything you have going so far in your fantastic home, just saw the kitchen and bedroom, beautiful work as always, love the colors you went with this time around. Also have to say the fresh new website/blog looks amazing, keep doing your thang!

    • Naomi

  5. I’m obsessed with your lamps — fabulous! Can’t wait to see your fabric choice and the finished room!

  6. Tiffany

  7. LindsB

  9. Hannita

Lawd! Those lamps are fabulous! Also, I hope your muscles stop hurting.

  10. ange

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the room is coming together beautifully! The lamps, the headboard, the fabric on the stool. AmAzing! Hope your back heals up so you can knock some more awesome out.

  11. I love the crisp white color! Also loving your Serena and Lily bedding. I’m so sorry you injured yourself- take care of yourself this week.

  12. Pretty impressive progress on your whole house this week especially with a hurt back. Those foo dog lamps are the best thing ever. Love them!

  13. Carol

I love the white of the headboard with those dark walls. Why not pop it with nail heads that match the hardware on the dresser or how about a changeable slipcover for the headboard. I am in love with the room so far. Take care of your back.

  14. Ouch….I can sympathize with you on that. Those lamps are fabu for real!!! And who knew you were going to change out that headboard… always have tricks!

  15. Can’t argue with Foo – they are awesome!! Hang in there!!

  16. Brandi

Sorry about your back! I am just getting over a back injury myself so I feel your pain (literally!) This is a great little addition to your room. I always like to use things I have while I save up or look for the right item. It saves money for when the right item comes along!

  17. I am sorry your back is out. My excuse was my dog was really ill on the weekend and we thought that it was the end. Well Monday he is back to normal. Weird…. so I really need to kick it into high gear this week!
I love the shape of your headboard! And I am dying to know the dramatic conclusion!

  18. keep that heatpad warmed up, there’s nothing that helps more than heating up those tired acheing muscles1
I am thinking you will go maybe Chinoiserie fabric as well for the headboard ( Shumacher ? ) or maybe a Nina Campbell fabricas you loved her wallpaper design so much in your old loft with the flowers and birds.Would be pretty cool!

    • Naomi

Bea- you know me so well! I almost used the Nina Campbell paper again as art on either side of the bed, but these lamps are too high and it didn’t make sense. The colors are perfect, though.

  19. Dying to see what fabric you choose for that fab headboard, and the lamps paired with crisp white, and your walls – the perfect compliment! Here’s to feeling better, quickly!!

  20. The foos in white are great against the teal. Feel better!

  21. Cathy

I agree, a fun touch and i love the use what you have mentality!!! Take care of your back, enjoy the visit with your friends and worry not, the bedroom is coming together!

  22. Tiffany

ps. I hope your back feels better soon! xoxox

  23. Tiffany

Love how crisp everything looks, even though its so moody! You are a mixing genious. Can’t wait to see the fabric for that heaboard!

  24. So sorry about your back but hopefully you can rest it against that amazing headboard. It’s looking soo good!! And you can never have enough foo in my opinion. 🙂

  25. Aww, girl I am so sorry your back is out. That is the worst. I bet your dogs are loving you lying around with them :). That headboard is a fantastic addition, and the shape is spot on….of course you can rock make anything look great. Love the crisp white foo.
