Monday in the Kitchen…. Wallpaper

Hi All!  How was your weekend?  I had a lovely time- did a wee bit of retail therapy, attended a charity ball and celebrated my grandparents’ 70th (!) wedding anniversary.  Oh and I scored a fantastic piece of art from my ever stylish Nana.  Hope to be showing that off later in the week.

But now I’m looking to the week ahead- its a big one.  We are trying to wrap up a several design projects and starting demo on a new kitchen today.  I love demo day!  We designed this particular kitchen to be clean and classic.  White cabinets are topped with black quartz counters and white subway tile.  The owners didn’t want to do anything too trendy that they would tire of in 10 years.  Still, there was a concern that the space would be a little bit too plain.  Where is the pizzazz?

The great thing about a white kitchen is it’s blank slate.  You can add your own personality through roman shades, lighting, rugs, hardware, seating, accessories, etc.   Here is the kitchen as planned, with minimum embellishment….

But if you read this blog, you know that personally, I think more embellishment is more better.  In a space like this, with so few blank walls, what I would really love to do would be to add wallpaper.

I’d love a punchy floral to enliven and soften the space…

Or something subtle and whimsical like my new favorite paper….

So many ways to add your own personal touch!  Here are some real-life kitchens with wallpaper….

Doesn’t a small dose of wallpaper make a big impact in a room?  I like it a lot in a kitchen, because it doesn’t need to overwhelm the space. And it’s a minimal commitment.  Much easier to change out your paper than to do full fledged kitchen renovation.

These wallpapered kitchens look stunning! Good luck on the kitchen demo. We just redid our. I referenced your ottoman the other day on my blog. Love that thing!

  2. I’m sending this post over to the inlaws, because that is the EXACT kitchen they’re cooking up — white cabs, black counters (ps: honed granite or quartz???), and white subway tiles. I would LOVE to see some wallpaper in there!

Happy anniversary to your gps. That is so awesome!!!

  3. You are brilliant! Those mockups are stunning!

70 years!!! That’s so amazing. What a blessing. Mazel Tov to your grandparents!

I love the idea of a little graphic touch of wallpaper to liven up a simple, classic kitchen. The M Design image has long been a favorite and I’ve always wanted to use that inimitable banana palm paper somewhere in my home. I also have pondered using wallpaper as a backsplash with the edition of a plexiglass overlay. Hmmmm, what do you think???

    Oops, hate typos! “Addition!”

A charity ball and a 70th anniversary party? Sounds like an awesome weekend. Congrats to your grandparents!

I love me some wallpapered spaces, and that M Designs kitchen has LONG been a favorite. Are you keeping notes? Because I’d like you to work on my kitchen when we finally have a house…

  7. I love exactly that. A timeless kitchen with over the top elements so it’s current. So what did the homeowners chose?

  8. You know I LOVE wallpaper in the kitchen! I adore your Paradiso paper in the mock-up- gorgeous!!! And that first example kitchen with the green island, delish!!

  9. Mazel Tov to your grandparents! You come from good stock. ;)

I have wallpaper on the wall behind my cooktop (former owner did it) and it’s a damn mess. Adjacent wall are fine. There is a lesson here.

  10. Yes wallpaper is amazing and can so transform a space and I love the idea of using it in the kitchen. Is the one you said you loved a Christopher Norman paper by chance? Love his line..he has so many great ones and they really stand out from the rest…love all your concepts. Congrats to your grandparents!

The last pic is my favorite…nothing beats a cheerful kitchen!

    Have a great week, sweetie.

  12. I love this idea, it seems to instantly make a kitchen more homey AND stylish, awesome mockups, yes more is more!

Thanks for the Liberty Ball shout, hon! I’m so glad you could go! :-)

  14. Completely agree with adding wallpaper to this kitchen demo/design – will add a further dimension that can change as the tastes of the owners devlope.

P.S I have a feature wall wallpapered in my kitchen and I just love the warmth it brings.
