Cottage Update: The State of Destruction

I almost didn’t share a cottage update this week because I feel like nothing has happened.  Things started off so strong and quick with carpets coming up and the kitchen being demolished.  But then we went back to work on Project Craftsman and things have really slowed down.  (I’m not complaining, I love paying work!  It’s just testing my patience.  I want to move in so badly!)

I have gotten a few days with the DM crew and per usual they have moved at super speed.  The wall is out between the living area and kitchen.  It’s cool but it’s hard to be excited about it when the first floor is filled with so much crap!

Reminder- It looked like this before.

The half walls between the living room and dining room came out.  The living room was just TOO small- I needed the extra flexibility of an open floor plan.  We plan to straighten out the stairs, buying me even more space in the living room.

I started priming my 80’s laminate kitchen cabinets.  By the time they get re-installed in my kitchen they will be unrecognizable! This is one of the few things I can do on my own and it makes me feel like I have some sort of control over the situation.

I said goodbye to my lovely bathroom.  Materials have been ordered for the remodel!  (See the plans here.)
It’s been gutted and I have fancy new plumbing.  So very eager to see this project come to life.  Plus it would be nice to have a toilet again.
That’s it for now.  Until the next boost I will continue daydreaming and scheming ways to make the cottage perfectly me.

What are your plans for the laminate cabinets??? I have the plain flat ones (without the wood trim) and would love to know what to do with them. We are moving into a house with a large, U shaped kitchen and tons of these cabinets. It would cost a fortune to replace them. Suggestions? Please email.

  3. It feels so open! I can already tell it’s going to be stinkin’ awesome! I want so badly for you to move in too!

  4. Renos always look so scary in the middle – but the results will be great! Can’t wait to see the bathroom redo, especially.

  5. Seems like things aren’t moving too slow! You’re so lucky to have such a great team to help you out 🙂 Can’t wait to see the next cottage post!

  6. Looking so good! Isn’t it amazing the difference a few walls make!!

WOW! I’d be super impatient too! I want to see it all done!

Wow, there’s alot going on! I love remodeling actually. I like to always have a project going. It’s tough to live through it though if it drags out. Best of luck!

It seems really bright in there without the half walls! You really notice that great window now.

  10. I don’t blame you for feeling impatient but it will all be worth it! Straightening out the stairs is a genius idea!

  11. A mess but I bet it is so rewarding to see the possibilities even more so with that wall down!

  12. You have already made it SO MUCH BETTER. It’s ridiculous how much that first floor needed to be open concept!
