A few Tweaks in the Bedroom

I have to admit that around the finale of the One Room Challenge, I was so crazed with work and social obligations that I kinda threw the finished room together without much time to edit.  Since then I have made a few tweaks that make the room feel more right for me.

The first change was to swap out my red bamboo stools for a wicker set I snagged from my Nana.  (Yes, I know another score from Nana.  How would I decorate without her?)  I LOVE my bamboo stools, but they were feeling too busy in this room, so they’ve traveled downstairs where they can be more of a statement piece.  I really like the shape of these “new” stools- I swear they make my room seem larger!  I also like that they are more natural and neutral.  They are a little dated right now, so I will probably give them a makeover at some point.

I’m curious, what would you do with these stools?

Now that springtime weather is here in Philly, I’ve also swapped out my down comforter for a quilt.  I have to admit, I’m so much happier with this look.  I’m one of those weirdos who makes their bed every day.  When my bed is neat and put together, I feel better in life.  Comforters are so frumpy, so I had a hard time ever feeling like my bed felt polished with one on there.  It will be back in the winter, when I’ll enjoy the cozy down, but for now I’m neatly tucked in with my quilt and feeling very pleased.

PS- this is the quilt I bought.  It’s very white and and has a nice texture.

Cute stools! Your nana really does have a great eye. They would also look darling as little side tables on a covered porch.

  2. Kim Macumber

Love the stools and have to say I kind of like the way the green pulls out the green in your coverlet … I might just swap the top of a cushion … but keeping the green, just making it softer! I threw out the comforter this week as well!! xo

  3. Angeline

I like Kim’s idea of a cushion on the top of the stools – Whatever you do, it’ll be great! Thanks for the quilt tip – it’s difficult to know how the online stuff is going to feel – so, thank you!

  4. Three cheers for Nana! Good taste must run in the family. :) Those stools are fab but I think the only thing I would tweak on them is adding some contrast trim to the cushion in some great color combo. Maybe that pretty orange and dark pink from your blanket.

    • Naomi

Ooo great idea. Yes to the cushin and I like what contrast trim would do. Thanks ladies! How do we feel about the bases?

  5. Heather

LOVE those. I would add a little foam and batting and upholster the top. Please don’t paint the rattan! Just the perfect shape.

Looking around my house, I don’t know what I would do without hand me downs from my mom. Every once in a while I go raid her storage room for all the stuff she kept form the 70s. So great to have a super secret vintage source. (I have some of my grandmother’s things, too.)

  6. Love the stools as is! Your room is so cute!
Your foo dog lamps are awesome — can you reveal the source?

    • Naomi

Thanks Leslie! They are Barbara Cosgrove and I spray painted them bright white. (They are more yellowy/cream)

      • Thank you for sharing! The lamps are absolutely beautiful! I’m going to save my pennies and get one soon! :)

  7. sue

i know it’s sacrilege, but i’d be curious to see those stools painted out in a gloss (black?) with a contrast trim on the top as mentioned above (something tribal?)…
then again, i do love them just as they are also!

  8. I love your new stools and the rattan adds a nice natural element. Like the idea of adding cushions with some pink detailing…

    Looking good!

    • Naomi

ooo pink. you know I Like it ;)
Do you like the idea of a green cushion? I don’t want to over do it with color.

    • Naomi

Thanks Hannah! I’m pretty lazy and overworked, so there is a strong possibility I will do nothing.

  9. Kristen

Love those rattan stools! They look great in your room :)

I would keep the bases as is, since they add some nice, neutral texture… the green tops are definitely fun, but my first thought was to paint or upholster them in black to tie in with your fab nightstands!

  10. Elisa

I’m all for quilts but I must admit, I’m a lazy bed maker. I use a down/duvet and because it’s so fluffy I don’t bother pulling up the sheet. So the bed only looks made. Ridiculous I know-especially because I take the time to put on a zillion pillows!

  11. Ashley

Pardon what will probably be a repeat suggestion, but replace the tops with a cushion! They are adorable and would be a great place to put your shoes on in the morning.

  12. I just love the stools – aren’t grandmothers the best!! The idea of a cushion on top would look amazing and would be functional too ~

  13. Holly

I love the stools just the way they are – the texture and that shade of green can go anywhere. I prefer quilts to comforters as well. Just got one for my daughter from Target for a steal.

  14. Reese

Fantastic color combinations and also the stools that have been used to add more beauty on the interior design on the room. Great Idea..Thumbs up for you the job well done.:D

  15. Nikki W

hehe. love the new stools. I’m also a weirdo. I CANNOT sleep in an unmade bed. Crazy, but that’s my quirk.

  16. Kristy

Love the stools!!! Man your Nana rocks :) . I like the idea of upholstering the stools as well. My vote – chartreuse velvet!! Oh yeah!! Love the rattan as is … Adds so much lightness and texture to the space.

  17. Britney

Love the changes, I would cover the green tops in cognac leather. It would look great against the white and a nice contrast to the black in the room!

  18. Such a beautiful room! So crisp and calm- I LOVE this. The headboard is great-Where is that amazing fabric from? I need it STAT!

    • Naomi

I made the fabric. A much overdue post will be coming on all of that!

  19. I thought you may have- That’s awesome. I’ve been thinking of doing the same. Found a few wood block stamps that would be great. Would you mind sharing the type of fabric you used and if it’s washable after the printing? Thanks!

What is the beautiful blue wall paint. It’s just what I’m looking for and CAN’T DECIDE between 4.

    Thanks!

  21. Danielle

Hi! Can you tell me where the brown floral throw is from? It is gorgeous!

    • Naomi

Danielle- my sister brought it back from India.
